Mount Soledad Memorial
The Mount Soledad Memorial, a 43-foot-tall Latin cross that is part of a veterans memorial in San Diego, is under attack from the ACLU.
Since 1954, the cross has stood as a symbol of the selfless sacrifice and service of our nation's veterans. The cross is surrounded by six concentric walls with photos, names, and diverse religious symbols of members of our military who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
For over 20 years, this veterans memorial has been the subject of a lawsuit brought by an atheist and the ACLU, and in December 2010, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the cross is unconstitutional.
If the ACLU gets its way and this veterans memorial cross is torn down, what will happen to the 20-foot Canadian Cross of Sacrifice in Arlington Memorial Cemetery and the countless others like it in nearly every community nationwide?
